Musculoskeletal physiotherapy - MSK

As musculoskeletal (MSK) physiotherapists we assess and treat patients with physical difficulties resulting from illness, injury, disability or ageing. We also play an important role in health promotion, health education and self-care. This can extend to advising and teaching patients, relatives, carers, other health care professionals and support workers in order to get the best possible outcome for you, so that you can get back to doing the things you need to do and the things you love to do.

How we work

We work in partnership with our patients to identify problems and achieve the goals we set together. We will work with you to devise a treatment programme, which may include a seminar, group exercise sessions, manual therapy (hands on), therapeutic exercise and electrotherapy, based on your needs. We will also provide advice on how to avoid future injury.

Your treatment

At your first appointment your physiotherapist will assess how your problem is affecting your life, your level of fitness and your usual activities. They will ask lots of questions, watch your movements and touch the parts of you that are affected. They will explain how to manage your pain, contribute to your own recovery and prevent any problems recurring. You will have an opportunity to ask questions.

You can generally expect to receive between one and five treatments depending on the outcome of your assessment.

We accept referrals if:

  • you are aged 14 years or over
  • you have an MSK condition (acute or chronic)
  • you are able to attend an outpatient clinic  at one of our sites. We also operate on a limited basis from a variety of GP surgeries across south west Essex

We are committed to offering our patients a timely service and we need your help to ensure that we make the most effective use of our clinical time. If you are unable to attend any agreed appointment you must advise us of this, at least 48 hours in advance, so that we can reallocate your appointment to another patient.

Where possible we operate a text appointment reminder service to mobile phone numbers. However, if you would like to opt out of receiving text messages please let us know.

Finally, if you cancel or do not attend an agreed appointment, you will be discharged from our service and referred back to GP/ Consultant.
